Monoclonal antibodies to Mycoplasma hyorhinis surface antigens: tools for analyzing mycoplasma-lymphoid cell interactions.

چکیده
A library has been constructed of approximately 50 monoclonal antibodies that recognize antigens of Mycoplasma hyorhinis. Characteristics of six antibodies are discussed. Each reacts with a discrete determinant borne on a protein-containing molecule of distinct molecular size. Three of these respective antigens are expressed at the surface of mycoplasmas colonizing lymphoblastoid cells in culture. Of these three surface antigens, two are selectively expressed on strain GDL but not on strain BTS-7 of M. hyorhinis, thus defining strain-restricted immunological specificities within these species. One monoclonal antibody of the IgM class (mu, kappa) mediated marked complement-dependent growth inhibition of M. hyorhinis in broth culture. These monoclonal reagents should facilitate analysis of mycoplasma surface architecture, and the molecular interactions of these organisms with the host cell surface.

The prevalence of Mycoplasma hyorhinis contamination in tissues samples from cancer patients: A Brief Report
Infectious agents cause 15-20% of cancers worldwide. The infectious agents and contamination may be caused by a local chronic and advanced local inflammatory response, or by tumorization. Mycoplasma contamination can interfere with biological agents and cause DNA damage which affects gene expression, and disrupts the control of cell cycle inspection and apoptotic responses. Mycoplasmas are wide...
متن کاملLipid-modified surface protein antigens expressing size variation within the species Mycoplasma hyorhinis.
Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) previously shown to recognize distinct epitopes selectively expressed on the surface of some Mycoplasma hyorhinis strains were used to define two discrete sets of lipid-modified membrane surface proteins showing marked size variation within this species. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and immunoblot analysis of Triton X-114 phase-fractiona...
متن کاملA family of strain-variant surface lipoproteins of Mycoplasma fermentans.
The wall-less procaryote Mycoplasma fermentans is currently being examined as an agent potentially associated with human disease, including infectious processes affecting immunocompromised individuals. To delineate and understand the interactions of M. fermentans with its host, specific membrane surface components were characterized as markers for detecting the organism and for assessing hetero...
متن کاملSelective association of murine T lymphoblastoid cell surface alloantigens with Mycoplasma hyorhinis.
Mycoplasma hyorhinis, isolated by isopycnic centrifugation from supernatants of a persistently infected murine T lymphoblastoid cell line, demonstrated the presence of the Thy-1.1 differentiation alloantigen and H-2Kk histocompatibility antigens. The murine leukemia virus-related gp70 antigen also present on the surface of these lymphoblastoid cells was absent from mycoplasma preparations. Quan...
متن کاملA mycoplasmal protein influences tumour cell invasiveness and contact inhibition in vitro.
Fab fragments of a monoclonal antibody directed against p37, a protein associated with the surface of FS9 mouse sarcoma cells, were previously found to inhibit the highly invasive behaviour of FS9 cells in vitro. We show that p37 originates from Mycoplasma hyorhinis. Infecting various cell lines with the mycoplasma consistently increased their invasiveness when confronted with chicken heart fib...
